My neighborhood park, Alamo Square, has a lovely group of rose bushes that were planted many years ago by a neighborhood resident. The fragrant white climbing roses bloom first, followed by the pink roses and a single small plant with large deep orange flowers. This painting combines the colorations of all three of these rose types that I enjoy immensely.
Painted using palette knives and acrylic paints on a cradled birch wood panel, there is a variety of textures, from more heavily layered paint to thinner layers that allow the wood grain to show through.
